Cheeda, bite-sized crunchy rice snacks
Cheeda — also called cheedai or seedai — is a bite-sized, crunchy rice snack, and we make ours fresh at our unit in Karippode, Palakkad. It comes in 200 g packets at ₹75, to mix with our other Kerala snacks in a 9-packet Happiness Box.
What is cheeda?
Cheeda is a small, round, crunchy snack made from rice flour and fried until golden. It is described as bite-sized, crunchy balls that are perfect for evening tea.
A traditional recipe is built on rice flour with a little urad dal, and in Tamil Nadu it is prepared for festivals like Pongal. Ours is the savoury rice cheeda, made the Palakkad way.
Is it cheeda, cheedai or seedai?
They are all the same snack: cheeda is common in Kerala, while cheedai and seedai are the Tamil names. Savoury cheeda is sometimes called uppu cheedai, from uppu, salt.

Each 200 g packet is ₹75 and a Happiness Box holds any 9 packets, so a box costs ₹675. Delivery is free in Kerala, ₹100 to other South Indian states and ₹180 to the rest of India.

How do I keep cheeda crunchy?
Eat it before the best-before date on the packet, and once opened keep it in an airtight container, away from moisture and heat.

Add cheeda to a Happiness Box with any of our other snacks until you have 9 packets, then pay online by UPI, card or net banking. We make and send it fresh from Palakkad.
